The SMQ®Steering Device has been tailored to the characteristics of the SMQ®Deflectors.Several sets of our inhouse developed SMQ steering device have been delivered and been put successfully into operation.

Some advantages using our deflector steering

  • Direct function design brings significant advantages by its low complexity.
  • The AOA is adjusted by moving the lever arm position relativ to the bridle block.
  • The AOA can be changed during operation allowing for full utilisation of the deflectors capasity vs specifications for the spread , speed and fuel optimization.

Power and controll of the SMQ®Deflector steering device

There are two available options for powering and controlling the steering unit:

Direct through lead in / umbillical

  • The SMQ®Steering device is connected by cable to the termination head of the umbilical, and further through the slip ring with a connection box.
  • Total 8 wires are required in the umbilical, 3 for power (230 Volt) and 5 for signal.
  • The SMQ®Steering device will deliver a signal that indicates the current position of the lever arm. Also a signal for overheating of motor.
  • In the connection box is a radio connector.
  • This radio connector is linked to a handheld device.
  • Alternative the deflector steering can be adjusted automatically by the navigation system.

Remote power and controll

A full function remote power and controll system installed on deflectors float / deflector is available for our deflectors giving full flexibility and autonomy not depending on additional cabling in the spread. System is prepared for interaction to vessel / seismic nav systems.
